High Level Visits (Last 12 years)

Cooperation between Bangladesh and the Philippines in various fields has been ever increasing. High level Delegations from the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture, LGRD, Health, etc. have visited the Philippines during past years, mostly on a study tour program. Important visits during the period covering last 10 years are mentioned below:

Mr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Hon’ble Adviser for Foreign Affairs (Foreign Minister) visited Manila to attend the 40thASEAN Ministerial Meeting and 14th ASEAN Regional Forum.  During the 14th ARF Meeting the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) was signed on the sidelines of the meeting.

Hon’ble Minister for Labour Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment visited Manila in February 2009.  During his 3-day visit, he held meetings with key persons at the country’s Overseas Employment Department.  His visit boosted the cooperation between the two countries in the field of overseas employment.

The Foreign Secretary visited Manila in April 2009 for attending an ADB meeting.  He was accompanied by the Secretary, ERD.  Earlier, Secretaries of Ministry of Science and Technology and ICT, Local Government of the Ministry of LGRD and Ministry of Food and Disaster Management came to Manila to participate in different meetings.

During the month of July 2009, the Chairman of the Judicial Services Commission of Bangladesh who is the Justice Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court visited Manila as the leader of 5-member Judicial Delegation.  The team comprised two Court Judges as well as the Secretary of the Judicial Services Commission.  The delegation had meeting with the Judicial and Bar Council of the Philippines.  Views were exchanged on the recruitment procedures of the two countries and the best practices in the Judicial services of the two countries.

Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, Hon’ble Foreign Minister visited Manila to attend the Special Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Meeting (SNAMMM) on Interfaith Dialogue and Cooperation for Peace and Development.

Six (6) member Bangladesh delegation headed by Mr. Mohammad Shamsul Alam, Deputy Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance visited Manila to participate in an International Study Visit on Aid Negotiation and Economic Diplomacy held at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University.

Eight (8) member Bangladesh delegation headed by Mr. Fazle Kabir, Secretary, Ministry of Finance visited Manila to attend the program on “Coordination between Planning and Budgeting, Strategic Recourses Allocations and Performance Management organized by the Department of Budget and Management and National Economic Development Authority, Government of the Republic of the Philippines.
13. The Bangladesh Parliament represented by Mr. SK Abu Bakar, MP and Mr. Anisul Islam Mahmud, MP visited Manila to attend the 5th Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Conference held in Manila. The conference was organized by the Senate of the Republic of the Philippines, the Southeast Asian Parliamentarians Against Corruption (SEAPAC), and the Global Organizations of the Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC).

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder & Chairperson of BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) visited the Philippines to attend the First Anniversary celebration of the BRAC Philippines/ADM Project (Basic Education Assistance) as part of BRAC/Alternative Delivery Model of Education in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BEAM-ARMM) on 27 February 2013 at Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, Office of the Regional Governor, ARMM, Cotabato City.  Sir Fazle Hasan Abed is a Knight of the British Order and Winner of Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership.

Eight (8) member Bangladesh delegation headed by Mr. Firoz Ahmed, Deputy Director, Department of Agricultural Extension, DD Office, Rangpur visited Manila to attend a “Training cum Study Tour on Vegetable Postharvest Systems and Technologies” held at the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna.  The delegation includes 4 farmers.

18. Eleven (11) member Bangladesh delegation headed by H.E. Begum Matia  Chowdhury, MP, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture  visited Manila at the invitation of Mr. Robert S. Zeigler, Director General, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to be acquainted with IRRI’s Global Rice Research and Development Programs and Facilities and to meet with IRRI’s senior officials and scientists who will give briefing on IRRI’s long standing collaborative projects with the Government of Bangladesh.

22. Four (4) Bangladesh delegation headed by Mr. Md. Alauddin, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Shipping to Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific visited the Philippines to have a visit to Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific, Kamaya Point, Barangay Alas-asin, Mariveles, Bataan.  The delegation is expected to prepare a report to upgrade National Maritime Institute as an independent and world class Maritime Training Institute in Bangladesh from May 29-June 2, 2013.

Jinnah Fardoush, Engineer attended the MRP/MRV Inauguration on 13 November 2014 at the Embassy of Bangladesh, Manila.

Mozammel Haque Khan, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, GOB  visited the Philippines to attend the Centennial Celebration of the Special National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines hosted by H.E. Mr. Jejomar C. Binay, Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines and President of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Dr. Khan received a Bronze Tamaraw Award during the Centennial Celebration of the Special National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines held at the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) National Office on November 15, 2014. He also attended the Inauguration of the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) and Machine Readable Visa (MRV) assigned at the Embassy of Bangladesh, Manila on 13 November 2014.

Binay, Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines and President of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.  Mr. Haque received an International Friendship Award during the Centennial Celebration held at the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) National Office on November 15, 2014.

Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank (Central Bank of Bangladesh), People’s Republic of Bangladesh visited the Philippines to receive the Gusi Peace Prize International 2014  for his Contributions as a Poor Man’s Economist.  The awarding ceremony was hosted by the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation, Manila, Philippines at the Philippine International Convention Center on November 26, 2014.
